Here at Buck Creek we know that without God’s grace we would not be here. The student ministry is named Kaleo for that reason. Kaleo is a Greek word meaning “called”. We know that had we not been called by God and His grace, we would have absolutely no hope! We also realize how important the teen years are in an individual’s life. That’s why the student ministry is always at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers.
We firmly believe in teaching our students to own their faith! What we mean by that is, that they believe what they believe because God and the Bible lead them to believe that way, not because their parents, church, pastor, or denomination believe that way. We feel that if they don’t “own” it, as they go to college or the work force, they will fall victim to a worldly culture and its viewpoints. This is accomplished by teaching biblical principles and showing them how to apply them to their lives on a personal and intentional basis.
Discipleship is of the greatest importance at Buck Creek and Kaleo student ministries. We, as believers in the one true God, must always be growing in our journey as a child of God and our students are no different. Students are taught the Bible and its great instruction on Wednesday nights by the student pastor. The service starts with a student led praise team leading us into worship and a time of prayer followed by Bible teaching in a lecture or discussion format. Sunday mornings are our small group time. We try to create a relational environment in our small groups where our students can talk about their struggles and encourage each other to stay strong in their faith and know that they don’t have to go through life and their struggles alone. This is a place where imperfect people can be, just that, imperfect and try to figure out who God is and how that relates to us and our lives.
